Sosua climate - any danger?
For Sosua climate there is always a danger of a hurricane bearing down on the Island. The hurricane tracks are far of Sosua but winds can take them anywhere.
Although Sosua is better adapted to dealing with hurricanes because its people have become used to them and are more aware of their impact. And there are places of substantial elevation.
As part of risk assessment, a computer programme has been devised to “fast forward” time and look at the likelihood of hurricanes of various strengths following historical tracks across the globe.
So tourism is full protected and you can safetly plan your trip. |

Sosua climate - a reason to plan your trip now
The weather in Dominican Republic remains tropical year round, with slight variations dividing it into basically two seasons, summer and winter. The average annual temperature is around 25 (77F). The so-called "cool" season is from November to April, with what is considered pleasantly warm weather, relatively low humidity and low precipitation. On the coast, i.e. near the beaches, the temperature hovers fairly constantly around 29C (84F) during the day and drops to around a comfortable 20C (68F) at night. The more "hot" season is roughly from May to October. Then, the average temperature rises to 31C (87F) during the daytime and drops to about 22C (72F) at night. However, with the accompanying high humidity that is more common during this season, it usually feels much hotter. It does rain a bit more often during this season, especially from May to August, but usually this turns out to be no more than a 30 minute tropical (sometimes heavy) shower. The Caribbean hurricane season lasts from June 1 to November 30. August and September are the months when most hurricanes have hit. The greatest threat to the Dominican Republic comes from hurricanes. The major resorts have become adept at getting back on their feet quickly after a hurricane, as evidenced by the quick rebound from the devastation of Hurricane Georges (1998).
